Strangford Lough is a designated Marine Nature Reserve and is an ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest). It has outstanding natural beauty, and is unspoilt and uncrowded.
It is a large shallow sea Lough situated on the east coast of County Down. There is a wealth of wildlife in Strangford Lough and well over 2000 marine animals and plant species are found here.
The Lough has a rich marine life and provides an abundance of feeding for its waterfowl, wading bird, and seabird populations. It attracts a vast variety of different species and during winter is covered by around 70,000 birds.
Seals can be seen in the Lough at any time of year, swimming or hauled out on the rocks, particularly around Strangford narrows.
Triton Explorer is available for charter to take you out for a cruise along Strangford Lough, which is ideal for bird watchers and photographers alike.
Cruises will normally last about 2 hrs, although longer cruises can be arranged.
For this the charge is £120 (£60 per hour.) with a maximum of 12 passengers.
